The Radio Flyer & Joseph

I don't feel as oomph to blog about this as I did on Saturday, but I tweeted it, saying I will blog it, so I'm gonna do as I said.

I caught the Radio Flyer on Astro last Saturday. Its a 1992 film about an elder brother building a flying wagon so his little brother could escape the abuse he got from their stepfather. And this film made me cry. ='( It was just so touching to see how 2 barely-mature boys took care of each other, and even could worry about their mother getting upset when she finds out. Haihz... And the fact that the both of them looked so adorable just added icing on the whole sweetness of the film. Not forgetting also that those 2 boys could really act despite their age.

That's right. The elder brother is the Elijah Wood of the Lord of the Rings. xD I felt there was something familiar about this boy when I was watching the movie, and I guessed it was Elijah when he was younger. There was just something unique about his blue eyes that'll just make you think of that name. Lol.

The younger brother, however, was someone unknown to me until now. Joseph Mazzello. The boy looked familiar too, definitely, and he gave me that sort of assumption that he was an experienced face on screen as I was watching this. And I was right. This was just the younger version of himself now. Probably the start of his acting career.

Lo and behold, after the screening of the Radio Flyer on Astro, Jurassic Park was screened. And Joseph was acting in it too, also as a little boy (Tim) that was trapped on that dinosaur land.

And then, as I was googling him, I found out that he acted in Simon Birch too. This is a heart-warming film I've caught before in the past, and I never knew there was a Joseph Mazzello in it until now. Lol. xD

Its no surprised that he was given many "sensitive, melancholic" roles in the past when he was a child. I can't remember his acting in Jurassic Park though, but I caught glimpses of it in Astro that showed melancholic scenes of him too. He's just got that look in his eyes and his demeanor that makes you think like he is deep in thought. A sensitive kid. A kid that was too mature for his age, though he hardly speaks of it outloud. The kid has got talent...hmm...

Apparently he's acted in many other films too, and now, little, melancholic Joseph boy is no longer a kid.

Do you know any of his latest films? Has he been acting recently? Hmm... I guess I'd be looking out for more of him in the future. Hope his skills has further improved now that he has grown.

BBQ night. :)

Last Monday, housemates and I had our bbq dinner @ our condominium's swimming pool "pondok". Lol... Let the pics do the talking alright? ;-)

40 pieces of chicken wings. =D

The pros starting the fire.

I think Jackson had the best strength of all. xD

Taking turns with the fanning.

Sedap? Hahaha.

And then it started to rain.

And yes, we still continued with the bbq-ing. No rain is gonna stop us. We paid RM50 to rent that place ok.

Those white fog you see are smoke.

Then we took turns eating too. Haha.

My turn to hold the umbrella. Pathetic job, I know. Lol... But equally essential, otherwise we wouldn't have fire anymore.

Bonding session. Lol.

Then we started.......xD

The Left 4 Dead gang. Can you guess their weapons? xD

And...Jackson went back to eating. Lol.

Roomies.

Then Collins found an alternative use for his skewer. >.<

Roomies...and the retard. Lol.

Don't ask me about the guys. Maybe they snift too much smoke. xD Lai Kuan missing here.

Roomies.

Then Lai Kuan and Collins' classmate came by.

And he helped us with some pics. :)

Then its back to "work" again. :)

Jackson just had to squeeze himself in. Lol.

We made him our cameraman instead. xD

Marshmallow-ing.

I don't know what are they doing. Collins spoilt the pic only larr...lol.

Movie reviews - Meatballs & MJ

#1

Watched this awhile back to celebrate Joey's birthday. Well, it was also like a trip out for us I guess...we get to enjoy the movie too...*shrug*

I find this pretty good. Better than Up. At least in this one I get to laugh more...and really laugh for certain scenes in fact. Ok, Up is kinda a different genre...the more touchy kind, but personally, I like animated films to be humorous. My favorite character in this one is the father. Lol. He's got one super thick eyebrow for heaven's sake! And no eyes, unless he put some effort in raising those eyebrows. Lol... I can't help but like him. xD Found the fighting chicken part pretty lame though...but its just one scene.

Overall rating: 6/10

Caught this last Saturday with Marge and the boys. Surprised it was still showing, since its suppose to be on just for 2 weeks after the premier. Anyway, its good news for me and the gang. Haha.

The documentary felt pretty long, so a few of us got pretty restless. But its a good and detail description of how the weeks leading to MJ's death were. Its a documentary, so its bound to be less "dramatic" I suppose. More serious.

Its sad how much effort and time MJ and his team put into preparing the comeback concert, and just when its all about ready, he's gone. Haihz... I agree that he was a musical genius - he could write, sing, dance...and he could really hear, feel and lead the organization of his songs well. I salute him that he was willing to be hands-on with the team; leading them, with the help of Kenny Ortega (which is also the director of this film; did you know he choreographed High School Musical too??), humbly yet firmly.

I noticed that MJ's lyrics were also good...like Taylor Swift and Abba, the words used, and the theme of each song were unique and very nicely written. Like a story. Like literature. Lol. They're songs are like different kinds of poems. Lol. Well, I don't know about other artistes; I'm not very good with the music world.

I can imagine MJ writing such songs though. He's definitely melancholic - a perfectionists who's super creative. Its just sad that together with such characteristics, he gets depressed and confused with the world too. :( If only he had found the truth... I took a personality test awhile back too. Result? Melancholic. Lol.

I won't rate this one. Its a tribute to him. So I shall leave it as that. :)
